115 Storage Units Consumed In Fire

115 storage Units at the A-1 Meriden Road Self Storage facility in Waterbury, CT went up in flames yesterday (image below).

Waterbury Fire Chief David Martin said that a decision was made not to make entry due to the type of construction of the building and the volume of fire on arrival. The fire started towards the back of the building and since the doors to the units were locked firefighters had no idea what types of explosive or other hazardous items were waiting to greet them.

The fire started around noon and was still burning late into the evening as firefighters battled subfreezing temperatures and gusty winds. There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

A-1 does not offer insurance and it is believed that most of the unit owners were uninsured. Only two days ago we posted on 3 Storage Unit Fires so check your self storage facilities fire prevention and detection measures and that you are fully insured.

Two weeks after the fire, investigators say they can find no indication that the fire was intentionally set and have concluded that the blaze was an accident.
